ERS Statement: A core outcome set for clinical trials evaluating the management of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease exacerbations
Research studies evaluating the management of acute attacks in people with chronic lung diseases such as COPD use lots of different outcomes to determine the effectiveness of the treatments they study. These outcomes are not always clinically relevant or the most important to people who live with the disease.
Based on consumer, clinician and researcher input, this paper reports a proposed consensus-based minimum set of important outcomes to be used in future research studies on acute attacks or exacerbation management, to improve their quality and comparability. The outcomes proposed are in the infographic below.
