Congratulations to Dr Dennis Thomas, Post-Doctoral Research Fellow from our CRE, who was recognized at this year’s TSANZSRS Annual Scientific Meeting. Dr Thomas was awarded the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand and the National Asthma Council Australia, Asthma and Airways Career Development Award.

In July 2021 the Centre held its first INNOVATE workshop. The purpose of the INNOVATE workshops is to build capacity in research for early-mid career researchers (EMCRs), facilitate the development of collaborations and promote research excellence through the development of inter-and multidisciplinary research teams.

Oral corticosteroids (OCS) are an effective treatment for acute and chronic severe asthma. However the indiscriminate use of OCS poses a risk of serious side effects and irreversible harm. There is an urgent need to introduce OCS stewardship approaches.
