Professor James Hull visits the Centre of Excellence in Treatable Traits

In January 2024, Professor James Hull, PhD, FACSM, FRCP, a consultant respiratory physician and the lead for the unexplained breathlessness service at the Royal Brompton Hospital, London, UK, visited the Centre of Excellence in Treatable Traits. Professor Hull shared his expertise on assessing respiratory issues in athletes.

During his time in Newcastle, James conducted a webinar titled “From Bedside to Podium: Understanding Physical Activity and Its Limiting Factors,” chaired by Dr. Hayley Lewthwaite. Additionally, he hosted a breakfast session called “Unlocking the Secrets of Breathlessness,” facilitated by Annelise Rosnell, General Manager of NSW Football Legacy for the State Sporting Organisation, Northern NSW Football.

In his presentation, James addressed the topic of ” Breathing difficulties during exercise: is it really asthma” and was joined by Dr. Hayley Lewthwaite to discuss how athletes and individuals with COPD cope with breathing limitations during physical activity.
